Mat Pilates & Beach Yoga in Koh Samui: ฿500 Classes Anyone Can Join
12 September 2026 · 4 min read · Isla Pilates Samui

Looking for mat pilates in Koh Samui, or a beach yoga class in Koh Samui that does not require a hotel booking? Isla Pilates Samui teaches both at two partner hotels near Bophut: a mat pilates class in the garden at Wild Cottage Sanctuary and a sunrise yoga class on the sand at Banana Fan Sea Resort. Each is ฿500, an hour long, taught in English, and open to anyone on the island. Mats are provided. Here is exactly what to expect, what it costs, and how to get a place.
Mat pilates in Koh Samui: the Wild Cottage class
Mat pilates is the original form of the method: the same control, breath and centre-work as the reformer, with your own body weight as the resistance instead of springs. The Wild Cottage class runs on mats on a quiet lawn set back from the road, in a garden that is green even in dry season, and it is taught for all levels. A complete beginner can join. So can a reformer regular who wants to feel what changes when the machine is taken away.
What changes is this: nothing supports you. On a reformer the springs guide the movement; on the mat you hold the shape yourself, so an exercise that looks gentle asks a great deal of the deep abdominals and the muscles along the spine. Reformer clients tend to say it is harder than it looks. Newcomers tend to say it was kinder than they feared. Both are right, and both leave standing taller. Wear something you can move in, bring water, and leave the grip socks at home — they are for the reformer, not the mat.
Beach yoga in Koh Samui: sunrise at Banana Fan Sea Resort
The yoga class is held on the beach in front of the resort, early, while the light is still soft and the sand is still cool underfoot. It is a full hour, taught in English and paced for a mixed group: poses held long enough to matter, never rushed, with the sea a few metres away doing the breathing for you. It is the class guests write to us about afterwards. Part of that is the practice. Most of it is where it happens.
Come as you are. Mats are laid out for you, the resort is a few minutes from Bophut and Fisherman’s Village, and a swim straight afterwards is entirely in the spirit of the thing.
How much do mat pilates and yoga classes cost in Koh Samui?
- Either hotel class is ฿500 to drop in — the hotel class pass on the price list, well under the price of a reformer class.
- Book on the timetable, where both classes sit alongside the reformer timetable with their day and time. Pay by card or PromptPay and your mat is held.
- You do not need to be a guest of either hotel. A reformer pack does not cover the hotel classes — they are a separate, cheaper pass that anyone can buy.
Places are limited by the space itself: a lawn and a stretch of beach hold only so many mats. Book the day before, especially in high season.
Mat pilates or beach yoga: which one?
Take the mat pilates class if you want to understand the method without a machine, or if you already do reformer classes at the studio and want the work to carry over to a hotel-room floor when you travel. Take the beach yoga if you want the island as much as the exercise. If you are here for a week, most people do each once and then argue about which was better.
Questions people ask before they come
Do I need experience? No. Both classes are taught for mixed levels, and the teacher adjusts around whoever is on the mats that morning.
What should I bring? Water and clothes you can move in. Mats are provided at both hotels. No socks needed.
Are the classes in English? Yes, every one of them.
Can I use my reformer credits? No — the hotel classes are a separate ฿500 pass, and that is the point: they are the cheapest way to train with us.
Where exactly are the hotels? Both are on the north coast a few minutes from Bophut and Fisherman’s Village. The timetable names the hotel for each class, and either is an easy scooter or taxi ride from Chaweng, Maenam or the airport.
Prefer the machine after all? The studio in Bophut is ten minutes from either hotel, and reformer pilates in Koh Samui explains what a class there is like. Staying longer? The Isla retreat puts a reformer class in every day of your trip.
